New Laws in the New Year

The new parents over at Franklin Avenue apparently have the perfect newborn as he is just a few weeks old and they have time to read the newspaper. LAist imagines that if we had a baby in our home we'd be alternating between sleeping and crying just like our child.
Anyway, they happened upon an LA Times piece highlighting the new laws that went into effect for Californians at the new year. It appears our legislature is most concerned with our prisons and the craziness going on on the internets. New statutes against spyware and piracy go hand in hand with new rules at our prisons.
So, when you get arrested for downloading Revenge of the Sith early and get sued for infecting some poor old lady's computer with spyware know that your jail cell will be a friendlier place. No surly guard or inmate will be blowing smoke in your face and you just might learn more than how to shank someone in the bathroom.
