The 91st Rose Bowl

We're not bitter that the Texas Longhorns marched into Pasadena yesterday and walked away with a thrilling Rose Bowl victory at the end of a great game. We're not bitter that it was so cold in the arena that we were more obsessed with wind chill and frozen toes in the stands than we were with Vince Young's Michael Vick impersonation on the field or Lloyd Carr's decision to save his timeouts to ice the kicker rather use them to keep time on the clock and give his offense a chance to get on the field.
No, we're bitter at the BCS and their screwing with tradition. The 91 year old Rose Bowl is supposed to be a Big 10/Pac 10 affair. Michigan fans understood and sensed this. For the most part, they showed team pride through solid renditions of Hail To the Victors and It's Great to Be a Michigan Wolverine and foam hands with mock claws on end. The sea of orange from Texas, in what appeared to be a much larger contingency than the maize and blue faithful, delighted in cheers of "Hail to you big cocksuckers" and other witty remarks. Popular among tailgaters were the brilliant t-shirts reading "Muck Fichigan".
Classy.
The Wolverines took it all in stride, even after pulling ahead at the end of the third quarter, most cheered proudly but didn't taunt much. Maybe it was because they didn't trust Coach Carr's ability to play call at the end of the game or the realization that they had no answer for Vince Young but we'd like to think it was simple deference to tradition. No need to mock and puff up. They'd been here before.
As they walked slowly out of the stands while the Longhorns celebrated , a Michigan alum turned to an older Texas fan and said, "Great game but you won't be back again." The Texas fan replied, "You're probably right." With the national championship game at the Rose Bowl next year, it's not likely either team will be here then but with any luck and any sense of tradition, the Wolverines will be back soon to play a Pac-10 power. And maybe, just maybe, the sun will shine on Pasadena once more.

You don't sound bitter at all!(right) Vince Young was amazing and the match-up between Michigan and Texas made for an amazing bowl game. Don't ruin it by being a bitter loser.

Don't think I did anything but praise the Texas Longhorn team and Vince Young in particular and challenge the Michigan Coach's decision making at the end of the game.
Texas fans...well, they left something to be desired.
And it still doesn't change the fact that The Rose Bowl, until the BCS was established, has been about the best of the Big 10 meeting the best of the Pac 10.

Hahahahahaha
You can't tell me that the team from Michigan is going to try and claim their fans are all saints? Is the whole Pistons-Pacers incident completely off the radar already? We do all remember it took place in Michigan, right?
Not sure where you sat on Saturday....where I was at, I certainly saw just as many (or more) classless Michigan fans than I did Longhorn fans. And I was at last year's game, and witnessed plenty of classless Michigan fans then, too.
In all of the college football games I've attended, I've seen classless fans from EVERY single team. It sucks, and I definitely would rather people be civil, but you're nuts if you're going to try and call out one team for being SO bad.
And since when were the Pac-10 and Big-10 suddenly such models of class? Have you ever been to a Cal game? When the Cal fans came to the Coliseum this year, most of them had the ever-so-classy "Fuck the Trojans" t-shirts on.
So I guess, if nothing else, you can rest assured that had things gone as they were "supposed to", you would have had even more classless fans to deal with. They just would have been wearing the same exact colors, leading to a monotonous stands.
Although, your beloved Wolverines probably could have held on for the win against the overrated Bears.
