Eat Ya Later, Alligator

Only 2 weeks left to indulge yourself before you have to actualize all those resolutions you made for the new year.

We recommend breaking your carbo/sugar fast with a piece of Alligator (currently available at Gelson's Markets, pictured above), those delectable pecan encrusted pasteries. Growing up, we couldn't get enough of the flaky, buttery treat enlivened with marzipan and have fond memories of patronizing the bakeries around Robertson and Pico.

While rummaging through the Cook's Exchange archive of the Daily Press, we discovered an actual recipe for the pastry. If you aren't up to baking, you can pick one up at the following bakeries.

B&L Bakery
8556 West 3rd Street
Los Angeles, CA 90048 - (310) 271-8333

Gelson's sells Victor Benes packaged Alligators, but you may be able to pick up a fresh one at the Victor Benes Bakery in West Hollywood.

Viktor Benes Bakery
8330 Santa Monica Boulevard
West Hollywood, CA 90069 - (323) 650-7434

If you snag an Alligator, be sure to serve it warm.

Oh my gosh, alligator! I loooove it...oddly enough I've never met anyone else who has known what it is. Needless to say, it is damn good!
