Gripping Winds, Horrifying Temperatures!

The Los Angeles Times has confirmed LAist's suspicions this morning in a report that confirms our worst fears -- "Southland gripped by high-winds and near freezing temperatures!"

Some of the horrific results we can, apparently, get ready to experience include (a) the cold, (b) gale-force winds that could cause tree-limbs to fall to the ground, and (c) scattered trash cans and swirling debris.

Is Los Angeles really, "gripped by high-winds and near freezing temperatures?" Is Los Angeles simply a bunch of weather-woosies who, when faced with anything other than sunny temperatures, freak out? Or is the media so bored here in Southern California, so absent of anything really dramatic -- that they must make weather the #1 villain in our city?

LAist is a little sick and tired of the local news media's attempts to vilify any weather other than sun. If it's rain, it is "Ultra Horrific Floodwatch '04." If it is cold wind, we are "gripped" by the terror that is flipped over garbage cans and swirling debris. If it is hail, meteorites are crashing down all around us, signalling Armageddon.

We're not quite sure where the entire fault lies, but we wish the local media would spend more time worrying about things that really are disasters -- like the City of Hollywood's Christmas Parade. If there's any real terror currently in our city, no one need look any further than that.
