Christmas in LA has always been kind of a muted affair. Too many of the hallmarks of the season are in short supply in SoCal. There's no snow, no sleigh rides, and palm trees just don't make a suitable substitute for Christmas trees. There's a reason they film all those Christmas movies in New York. There are no "Miracles on Wilshire Boulevard." So every year around this time, while New York transforms into a magical winter wonderland full of Christmas spirit, LA has always just kind of thrown up its hands, put up a few lights here and there and waited for spring to roll around.
Well, no more. For the last three years, The Grove has brought Christmas to our city. And it's no half-assed LA version of Christmas with bikini-clad babes subbing for elves. It's the real deal. This Sunday at 8pm, the Grove presents its third annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. In addition to the lighting of the 100-foot tree, there will be live music, fireworks, enormous crowds and, yes, snow, glorious snow! We hear Santa himself might even show up for this one.
LAist couldn't be more excited that this season is upon us. Christmas at the Grove makes us feel like, well, a kid on Christmas. And living in LA, that's a feeling we haven't felt in a long, long time. The Miracle on Third and Fairfax is not only part of the Good Grove, it may be the very best thing about the Grove, and it's not to be missed.

Chanukah gets screwed again.
I'm with Paul.
Actually, they also put up this big ass 14 foot menora too.
Santa's just a shill for the corporations, a pawn who indoctrinates children into a culture of rampant consumerism that pillages the world's resources and creates huge gaps between the haves and the have-nots.
Wake up, people!
Stop the Santanic Menace!!!
You're a bunch of Scrooges! All of you!
Thanks for RUINING Christmas! :(
What does "Santa" spell if you re-arrange the words?
SATAN.
And if you take off the S and the A?
TAN.
Which turns into cancer, which kills you.
You'd all be best to stay away from that hell-spawn called The Grove.
Have you people forgotten it's not even FREAKING THANKSGIVING YET!
Somebody PLEASE make it a law so you can't start promoting one holiday until the previous one has actually happened.
They have christmas lights at Target for only $1.79!! Cheap! And if youre jewish they come in BLUE now! Huzzah!
I went to the Grove's tree lighting last year and it was a mess. Parking was horrible, and you had to have a "ticket" to get "in" to this public, outdoor mall. Given that they were trying to kick people without tickets out of the stores, while at the same time letting the throngs of ticket holders in, it was utter chaos, I tell you.
I'm with Plague, all this talk of Christmas is going to hurt Thanksgiving's feelings!
And to all you humbugs out there - Santa bashing is a surefire way to wind up on the naughty list!
