There's No Place Like Someplace Else

There’s something about a long weekend—whether you take a day off of work or are mercifully granted a Monday holiday—that begs for a trip somewhere else. One of the greatest benefits of living in LA is that there are so many places to go to get away from it, and the best of them are right here in California.

If you're inclined to stay close to home, you can spend the weekend in Long Beach enjoying the Aquarium of the Pacific, strolling the canals in Naples, cruising over to Catalina Island, and having dinner on Pine Avenue. In the mood to venture a little further south? In San Diego, you can hike at Torrey Pines, see Shamu at SeaWorld, go clubbing in the Gaslamp Quarter, and visit the museums at Balboa Park.

The possibilities are as varied as your potential interests. Desert lovers visit Joshua Tree or Palm Springs. Snowbunnies hit Mountain High or Snow Summit. Romantics might go to Santa Barbara or Carmel; spa lovers head to Ojai; rugged outdoor types hike Mount Whitney. The list goes on and on: Lake Tahoe, Carlsbad, San Francisco, Yosemite, Bakersfield (okay, just kidding on that one.)

What are your favorite California getaways? LAist wants to know.

One of my favorite California getaway is Cambria, a small town on the central coast. It's about 4-5 hours from L.A., and it's just so damn charming. Not to mention you're just a day-trip away from Big Sur, San Luis Obispo, and the Paso Robles vineyards. It's the perfect place to escape for 2 or 3 nights.
