Prepping for Halloween, Hollywood Style

While the rain has stopped, some Halloween celebrants might find their parade rained on.

As Angelenos far and wide get psyched to observe Halloween this weekend, the authorities are making it perfectly clear: partiers along Hollywood Boulevard better watch it. Shooting off that can of Silly String might cost you $1,003.95.

The City is out to prove that relatively minor Council motions still mean serious business. Folks can make fun of the Silly String ban all they want, but the LAPD is throwing subtlety to the wind with those signs posted every 50 feet or so along Hollywood Boulevard. (OK, three signs per block on both sides of the street. We get it, thanks!)

But LAist knows how this is really gonna go down.

The Man has handed daredevils a most tempting and irresistible challenge. Forget old tricks like throwing eggs or TPing the neighbor's house. It’s all about dodging that $1,000 fine for spraying the stuff between midnight Sunday and Monday at noon.

Don't get us wrong. LAist hates the "festive" goo, too, and we're eagerly curious to witness the ban's aftermath. Because when it comes to defending Hollywood the actual place, we're totally on board. (Mixed feelings notwithstanding. Check out some recent LAist comments about conflicting views on the issue of safety and civil liberties in Hollywood.)

We've also noticed an increase of ladies carrying bags marked with the names and logos of various purveyors of "exotic" clothing and shoes along the Boulevard. Whether the items inside are to be used as ironic costumes or actual work gear, however, remains unknown.
