Film Fest Season

The wet weather is a perfect excuse for going to the movies. If you're looking for more than the standard Hollywood fare, check out screenings at various film festivals playing around Los Angeles in the coming weeks.

The Century City Film Festival started yesterday and runs until October 30th. The Festival's theme is “Camp, Cult, Classics” and will screen Brian Austin Green's first feature as a director, "Fish Without a Bicycle."

Since moviegoers enjoy the Japanese sensibility on display in Japanese horror movie adaptations like "The Grudge," why not explore a different Japanese genre at The Chanoma Film Festival, which is devoted to films based on the theme of “Chanoma” – a family gathering place in the living room. Festival directors selected films that realistically portray everyday life of a Japanese family and counter generic views that Samurai and animation movies solely represent the culture of Japan. Films screened at last year's festival will play in rep from November 12 to November 18 at Laemmle’s Fairfax Cinemas in West Hollywood. Family-themed Japanese Animated films will run December 10-16 at the same location.

Finally, enjoy future sleeper hits at the AFI Fest 2004 which runs from November 4th to the 14th. The AFI Fest Tribute honoree will be Pedro Almodovar so be sure to catch a screening of his best films.
