Choke York City

For years the New York media has been training the rest of the country to believe that their Yankees were the epitome of clutch baseball.
They were the team with the cajones. They were the team who always came through when it supposedly mattered most.

But last night, hopefully we all learned a valuable lesson. Some perceived realities in baseball are just myths. The Yankees are not invincible. Last night, the Yankees (from the proud city of New York), choked in grander fashion than any other team in a postseason baseball series ever.

No team in baseball (or even basketball) history has given up a 3-0 series lead. It was thought to be virtually impossible. But for the Red Sox of all teams to wrap it up in Yankee Stadium is unfathomable.
For them to do it in a series where Mariano Rivera blew two saves, and where all the "clutch" hits came from Boston defies all of the logic which had been ingrained in baseball fans. But nothing is forever. And sooner or later the Red Sox had to beat the Yankees. New York isn't so tough after all.

As for the "curse", well, LAist will be watching the World Series.
