At UCLA's Hammer Museum, see artist Lorna Simpson at 7:00 PM giving a lecture on her work, which explores "the photographic medium, viewpoints of the self, and the relationship between image and text."

Tonight kicks off the 8th Annual Hollywood Film Festival at the ArcLight, featuring such films as Finding Neverland, I Am David, Undertow, P.S., The Machinist, and Enduring Love. The festival runs through October 18th, and also includes the "Hollywood Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Festival" showcase of horror films in alliance with Film Threat, which will include a presentation of the "Hollywood Horror Film Award" to filmmaker Don Coscarelli.

Tonight at Spaceland, see The Rye Coalition, Riah, The Lips, and The Gunshy. Doors open at 9:00 PM.

At The Echo, see Do Make Say Think with 50 Foot Wave (Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses) and Chauncy Langford. Doors open at 8:00 PM and tickets are $12.00. (18+)

At Amoeba Music, see a free in-store performance by legendary Angeleno Dave Alvin & The Guilty Men at 7:00 PM.
