Banned Book Week

Banned Book week commenced September 25th and ends October 2nd.

Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena will have in-store displays of favorite books that have banned in the past, such as those authored by Dr. Suess and Mark Twain.

Also, their staff will be wearing quotes from their favorite banned book. If patrons can guess the title that their quote is from, staffers will give them a kiss — a Hershey's kiss that is...

Speaking of books, S.E. Hinton, author of The Outsiders, That Was Then; This is Now, Rumble Fish, and Tex, will sign her new book, Hawkes Harbor, on Wednesday, September 29th at Dutton's Brentwood. Reading starts at 7:00 PM.

Former Los Angeles Times television critic, Howard Rosenberg, is also promoting his book, Not So Prime Time, on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena.

I find it constantly amazing that there are places (some of them less than an hour from Los Angeles) that still ban books, even staid public school fare like Tom Sawyer or Brave New World.
