Sounds fair enough, Phil. I guess we'll have to plan on an even bigger bet if they meet in the second round.

Alright, Shane. Here's my proposal. If the Dodgers make the playoffs, I win the bet. You send me a loaf of sourdough bread or a basket of various kinds of rice-a-roni. And you have to write some post about the greatness of the Dodgers and LA as acity.

I'll do the same if the Giants win, but you get to pick what you want from LA. If both teams make the playoffs since the bet is off.

4 of 6 is silly. All that matters is playing in the post-season.

Even if I weren't a Giants fan I'd be applauding Green for showing some public courage. (But as a Giants fan, I'm applauding a little bit louder.)

So what about this bet? What are the stakes? How about some sort local tchotchke, along the lines of a six inch Statue of Liberty, and a not-too-disparaging piece on winning team on the loser's -ist site? I think the winner has to take four-out-of-six and make the playoffs.

I agree with Phil and Hilary- it's Shawn's choice, but it's too bad that he has to agonize over it, it's just a hard position to be in.

In any case, if the Dodgers are good enough to get to and do anything in the playoffs, they're going to need to have other guys stand up and make something happen-- this is the perfect opportunity for some of the slumpers of late (Bradley I'm looking at you) to show they can step up.

I agree with you completely but want to add that I believe part of Shawn's "half-committment" is due to the fact that he is not an observant Jew. He was approached by and made into a poster boy for the Jewish community solely because he was born Jewish.

I'm sure he is struggling between letting down the Jewish organizations he has lent his name to as much as letting down a great team he is an integral part of. Definitely not a fun position to be in.

Shana tova and have an easy fast.
