Tonight, the 7th Annual Art Crawl kicks off across the eastside landscape of Silverlake, Los Feliz and Echo Park. The free, self-guided event runs from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Admission is $5.00, which also allows attendees acess to the "Album Cover Art Retrospective" post-crawl party. The Crawl continues throughout the weekend, running from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

At 7:00 PM, head for Pasadena and Norton Simon Museum to listen to Colin B. Bailey's lecture "Towards a Thinking Man’s Boucher: Myth and Genre in Boucher’s Art." Bailey is Chief Curator of The Frick Collection, tackling the divide between Boucher's reputation as a libertine and the more poetic subjects of his art. "This lecture offers a reappraisal of Boucher, presenting him as an inspired creator of narratives from religion and mythology, as well as a witty and knowing chronicler of gallantry and flirtation."

At LACMA, the film series Monty: The Films of Montgomery Clift continues at 7:30 PM with a screening of 1953's I Confess, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, followed by 1962's Freud, directed by John Huston.

In music, Spaceland has Brother Danielson of The Danielson Famile performing with Half Handed Cloud and The Castanets tonight. Tickets are $8.00 and doors open at 9:00 PM

But if soul is more your speed, head to the Greek Theater for an evening with Aretha Franklin and guest Teddy Richards at 8:00 PM. This is the Queen of Soul's first appearance in Los Angeles in 21 years, so buy tickets now.

BTW, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz are NOT eastside. Please check a map and a bit of our city's history. Boyle Heights, City Terrace, etc. are Eastside. There is a reason why the street directions (east/west) change at Main St.

Even the referenced Art Crawl changed its name from the "Eastside Art Crawl" to give respect to the real Eastside.

That info was pulled from releases about the Crawl, so I take no credit for the distinction.
