Even if he comes back, he might have to pitch in relief to build up his endurance and stamina. With the minor league season over, Penny won't get a rehabilitation start. It is looking very unlikely that he'll get to pitch in the postseason. As for Jackson, he hasn't come back strong from injury. They kept throwing him out to Vegas for one "rehabilitation start" after another, and none were spectacular. He gave up one run yesterday in two innings of relief. Even when he was starting, and pitching decently, he could only go 5-6 innings.
