Any day that brings the weekend that much closer is okay by LAist standards. Thankfully, this particular day also has plenty of diversions available to kill the time between Thursday and Friday.

Tonight at the Troubadour, catch former-punk-turned-country-crooner and Ryan Adams cohort Jesse Malin performing with The Damnwells and Holly Ramos. Doors open at 8:00 PM and tickets are $12.00 advance.

Downtown at The Smell, catch the danceable fun of Moving Units with The Fever and Lily and the Ladies. Doors open at 9:00 PM and admission is $5.00.

In Hollywood at the Knitting Factory, Michael Rother of Neu!—and of Kraftwerk—will be playing with John Frusciante (The Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Josh Klinghoffer (PJ Harvey/Beck), plus special guests Frausdots. Things get started at 7:30 PM and tickets are $15.00.

In film, the ArcLight has three special midnight screenings of films opening tomorrow: Collateral, Code 46 and Open Water. All shows start at 12:00 AM and tickets can be reserved online at the ArcLight website.
