Best Of What?

With all the nation's journalists taking a week's vacation to drink their faces off, LAist has been reduced to trolling through the CitySearch food rankings. Let's see who's leading the burger derby...

1. In-N-Out Burger (Sunset)
2. Tommy's (Beverly)
3. Apple Pan
4. Father's Office
5. Fatburger (3rd St.)

Looks solid. In-N-Out on top, where it belongs. We'll take the heft of a double Fatburger with cheddar cheese over the Apple Pan any day of the week, though. And on a totally unrelated note, LAist loves those high gravity ales on the menu at Father's Office. Even if they're totally inappropriate for a driving town. Father's Office claims a well-deserved 1st place in the "Bar Menu" divison.

Still, the folks at In-N-Out might want to wait before they celebrate their impending victory. The #1 pizza joint, as rated by CitySearch, is the Pasadena Numero UNO on Foothill Boulevard. And the #1 Chinese spot is P.F. Chang's China Bistro on La Cienega. Hmm.

Tommy's at #2 is a little high. If you order their chili, it will give you heartburn. I'd bump up the Apple Pan a spot.

What about Carney's? How come they get shaft? They have "probably the best hamburgers and hot dogs in the world." And if you're willing to spend a little extra cash, Fudruckers can make a mean burger.

P.F. Chiang's? You have to be kidding. I can name 50 better chinese restaurants in the LA area. Start just by going down the phonebook of Chinatown, Monterrey Park, and San Gabriel.

Yeesh, who *are* these people!?!? Clearly folks in need of a visit to the chowhound L.A. message board. Or not, on second thought, for fear that they'll waste bandwidth if they try to share food-related tips or insight. (O.K., I'm officially going to hell now.) But seriously, why even bother living in Los Angeles if you rate those as top eateries?

OK, maybe the purists out there will eschew a green chile, corn salsa, and jack cheese burger - but thats what I order at The Counter; I'd bump In-N-Out and Tommy's off that list in a heartbeat to put The Counter on there.

Can I put a vote in for Cassells in on 3rd street in Koreatown? Friendly peeps GREAT burgers, and they make their own relish and mayo.

Not to mention that they offer free peaches, cottage cheese, and horseradish potato salad if you purchase a burger. Now that I work in West LA I miss that place terribly, I suppose I should try the Apple Pan.. as its around the corner from me.

Is it just me? I didn't care for the famous burger at Father's Office at all. I can appreciate the different-ness of havine bleu cheese in/on a burger, but-- no. Great beer, though.
