According to ESPN.com, the Dodgers and Diamondbacks agreed to a deal that would send Randy Johnson to Los Angeles. That's great news for Dodgers fans, except Johnson told Arizona he would not waive his no-trade clause to be a Dodger.

Oh well. You can't blame Paul DePodesta and Frank McCourt for not trying. As the mainstream baseball media would say, this proves they "want to win."

Um... duh. You don't buy the Dodgers to lose.

While the price of Guillermo Mota, Jayson Werth, Chad Billingsley, and Chuck Tiffany is a high one to pay, when you're getting a premier franchise pitcher like Randy Johnson it's a fair price to pay.

In the meantime, with Johnson fixated on the Yankees, the Dodgers may have their sites set on Steve Finley. LAist would be satisfied with that acquisition, so long as Finley plays right field and leaves center to the younger and more athletic Milton Bradley. Even at 39, Finley is a decent upgrade over Juan Encarnacion.
