As promised, the weekend has finally rolled around. As befits your perserverance during the shortened post-holiday week, the next three days are packed with activity. LAist has plucked out some highlights just for loyal readers like yourself.

Highly anticipated, particularly in light of recent events, The Corporation opens tonight for a two week engagement at the NuArt. The film chronicles the rise and increasing dominance of corporate power, including interviews with Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, Naomi Klein and Howard Zinn. Showtimes are 2:00 PM, 5:15 PM, and 8:30 PM.

Also tonight: The Echo has special DJ set from experimental Icelandic trio Mum, with guests 60 Channels and Angel. Mention the bands homeland at the door and get $2 off admission—which is $10.00—and doors open at 9:00 PM.

Spaceland, KCRW and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions present Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Vetiver at 9:00 PM. Tickets are $14.00 and the doors at LACE open at 9:00 PM.

SATURDAY
Call & Response, Let's Go Sailing, Space Mountain and Aaron Perrino (of The Shelia Divine) are appearing at Spaceland. Admission is $8.00.

AC Newman, lead singer of The New Pornographers, appears at theTroubadour in support of his new album. Also on the bill are The Honorary Title and The Neins. Tickets are $12.00 and doors open at 8:00 PM.

Calexico appears free at the Getty as part of Summer Sessions 2004. Also performing in the Museum Courtyard are Mariachi Luz de Luna and DJ Sloe-Poke and Los Abandoned. The show starts at 6:00 PM.

Guitar giant Buckethead and Total Shutdown are performing at the Knitting Factory (Main). Tickets are $14.00 and the show starts at 8:00 PM.

Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons, curated by Polly Parsons and featuring Keith Richards, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, Jay Farrar and John Doe, is at the Universal Amphitheater. Doors at 7:30 PM, the show begins at 8:15 PM and tickets run from $40.00—$150.00.

The opening reception for "Sent" at Arte Six Gallery begins at 7:00 PM in the “Brunette” Room at the Standard Hotel Downtown.

Another opening, taking place on the Westside: "Heaven's Gonna Burn Your Eyes" at Cartelle Gallery in Marina del Rey. The show focuses on painters obsessed with surface, and the reception begins at 7:00 PM.

Also opening is "Itineraries" at Gallery Luisotti at Bergamot Station #A2 from 6:00—8:00 PM.

Call & Response appear at Tangier in Los Feliz Sunday evening. No cover.

From 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM is Bastille Day celebration in the Page Museum gardens. Come visit street vendors and munch on a baguette!
